THE VISION AND FUNCTION OF THE SPACE

The Self-Assessment may have identified specific space needs. With these needs in mind, you can now begin the difficult but exciting task of defining the Project Concept – the description of the types of space that will help you meet those needs.

Revisiting the Project Concept throughout the process will help keep your space-related initiative on track, preventing outside forces and unforeseen circumstances from derailing it.

OBJECTIVE FOR THE EXPLORATION PHASE:

Start outlining your Project Concept in broad terms. Why is the space needed, and how will it support the goals of the organization? This element lays the foundation for all the other elements. It should draw from your strategic plan and initial Self-Assessment.

KEY QUESTIONS FOR EXPLORATION:

Why is this space-related initiative necessary?

How will it address the needs of the organization and the community?

TO DO:

Discuss with Leadership Team, then summarize and write down a one-sentence response to each question:

  • Why do we need a new/expanded space?

  • How will the new/expanded space help us deliver our mission?

  • How will the new/expanded space positively impact our community?

List the activities that the space must accommodate.
